Sassara Vini "Vin de ANFOA"  2021

unfiltered, unfined, NO SO2

Garganega 60 days skins, aged in ANFORA pots

VENETO, Lago Garda, ITA

Deeply fun and deeply serious orange wine! Vin de Anfoa is an orange wine produced by Sassara Winery vinified with Garganega grapes, 60 days of maceration on skin in amphora. No filtration, no sulphite added, no added yeast and no chemical products. There is a deep fun and feral quality to this wine - the texture of fermenting in amphora translates to the finished wine, giving it a texture like running your hands over familiar skin. Garganega dialled to eleven gives round ripe apricots, bay leaf, fresh hay and a tonic like freshness that reminds us to keep refreshed.

We are proud to represent a thrilling new project that has even after a short while, led down many wonderful garden paths for ourselves and our customers alike! Vini Sassara is a fourteen hectare estate nestled in the hills of Valeggio sul Mincio in the Veneto, just south of the mind bogglingly beautiful Lake Garda, close to the town of Custoza at the southern end of the Bardolino DOC. Here they grow vines and olives.

The wines of Sassara are stylistically a song of two sides of this region, and honestly this song plays in many wine regions in the world. They fight against the old school extracted, industrialised wines of Amarone and Valpolicella and instead place focus on the soul of the soil. The wines are always deeply authentic, full of fruit and sunshine and a definite love of life. You can always taste in a wine when it is made by someone who cares about the world and others.

Alessia and Stefano are blessed with mostly big, thick, sturdy old vines roughly 60 to 70 years old, with some younger vines they have planted themselves. They all grow in fascinating, varied soils that once housed an ancient sea bed.
