Depth and character are prioritised in this Pinot Grigio, on the richer side of the Italian iterations of this variety. There’s lots of lemon balm, a hint of manchego, a fatness that comes from big healthy orchard apples and a hint of pear. Rich and inviting, a way that any wine might like to be described and certainly turning the variety’s reputation on its head. The name Mongris comes from the contraction of the two words “monovitigno” (“single-varietal” in Italian) and “gris” (“grey” in the Friulian dialect, referring to Pinot Grigio). The Adriatic Sea, just 30 km away, keeps the climate mild and the protection of the Julian Alps provides ideal conditions for viticulture, with warm days and cool nights in spring followed by mild summers. The Felluga family’s history with wine dates back to the 1800s, when Roberto Felluga’s great-great-grandfather started a business buying and selling wines. Ilaria Felluga, is now steering the family business into the sixth generation.
